Deniz Tek became interested in art and music during his childhood in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where his mother was a painter and piano player. He attended the University of Michigan and the University of New South Wales, where he graduated with a medical degree. His interests and pursuits have ranged from an active touring and recording career, with induction into the Australian Music Hall of Fame, to aviation, through specialty work in emergency medicine. His last several years have featured a renewed focus on painting and visual arts. He is an avid fan of 19th century impressionism and mid 20th century abstract expressionism. His paintings have been exhibited in Sydney.

He also does small ironwork sculptures which have been shown in Montana. Deniz Tek currently splits his time between Billings, Montana and Sydney, Australia.
